Football written to be read
ReadTheGame transforms real football matches into literary novellas. Not match reports. Not highlights. Not analysis pieces. Long-form prose that puts you in the stadium and lets the game unfold the way it did — chapter by chapter, without spoilers, without knowing the score until you earn it.
Each novella is built from forensic research, broadcast footage and post-match press conferences. Around six thousand words. Four chapters. Published within hours of the final whistle.

Luis De La Fuente adjusted his wide lines with twenty minutes remaining, introducing Nico Williams for Baena and Mikel Merino for Olmo, injecting immediate vertical speed into Spain's wide lines. Argentina held their shape deep in their own third, eleven behind the ball, waiting.
Williams's job was simple: stretch the tired full-backs and make them turn. He, Torres and Yamal moved as a unit even from the bench, three players who trusted each other's runs without needing to look. Argentina's back four had already dropped deeper still, conserving whatever legs they had left.
Rodri kept the ball moving side to side, patient, pulling Argentina's back four further into their own box. The ball found Pedri on the edge of the area, half-turned, room to strike.
Pedri's left foot swings through it clean. The ball curls off the boot, low, through a knot of white-and-blue shirts — legs, bodies, deflecting nothing. Martínez has read the line early. He gets down, both hands, saves it dead centre. Cubarsí is already there for the loose ball.
[77']Cubarsí doesn't wait for the ball to settle. Right foot, first time, through the same crowd of bodies that swallowed Pedri's shot seconds earlier. Martínez hasn't finished getting up from the first save. He drops again, gets his body behind it, holds it to his chest this time. Argentina scramble to clear their lines.
[77']Pedri kept waving his wide players higher, unwilling to let the double save cool Spain's tempo. Argentina hadn't cleared a ball cleanly in minutes — every touch rushed, every header aimed at nobody in particular. Martínez was no longer just a goalkeeper to beat. He had become the fixed point every Spanish shooter pictured before they even struck, the man standing between effort and reward.
Spain won a corner off Molina moments later, then another off Tagliafico. Laporte and Cubarsí both pushed up for the delivery, Argentina's back line packed tight around their own six-yard box.
The corner drops toward the back post. Laporte climbs above Otamendi, gets clean contact, directs it down and hard toward the bottom left corner. The ball bounces off the turf, in off the inside of the post — Martínez throws himself low, gets a hand to it, claws it away before it can cross the line.
[81']On the touchline, De la Fuente had jumped clean off the ground before turning away, hands slapping against his sides. Spain had missed too many by now for this one to register as shock. It landed as one more good chance gone, nothing more.
Laporte stood with his hands on his head. Play resumed with a foul by Giuliano Simeone, and Cucurella won the free kick back in Spain's own half. The pressure continued.
